Engineering Design Technician

Purpose

The Engineering Design Technician will collaborate with HCI Engineers to develop high-quality designs for various projects and solutions, including Mechanical, Structural, and Electrical components. This role is integral to the design and development of electrical systems for HCI Energy products. The Engineering Design Technician will contribute to engineering projects, gain technical expertise, and work closely with a team of engineers. Responsibilities include organizing and maintaining project documentation, ensuring proper file management, and supporting engineers with necessary resources.

Essential Job Duties

Design and Development
  • Create detailed designs for mechanical, structural, and electrical components using industry-standard software.
  • Implement design updates and changes in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Prepare production-ready plans, including layouts and detailed schematics, for diverse assignments.
Project Coordination
  • Support the setup and organization of project documentation in management systems.
  • Assist in developing work plans, budgets, and schedules while managing deliverables.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry across project files.
Collaboration and Support
  • Partner with engineers, project managers, and designers to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Experience and Education Required

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college. 
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering design work (Electrical preferred)
  • Proficiency in design software necessary for production tasks, such as AutoCAD (Electrical preferred), Inventor (preferred), or SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Vault, including administrative functions (preferred).
  • Capability to manage, coordinate, and organize project drawing revisions, plot files, and production documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of design principles, calculations, and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance in deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new design software to adapt to evolving project requirements.
  • Capability to perform routine tasks independently, such as drawing electrical schematics and site layouts.
  • Familiarity with design software training opportunities and an openness to grow technical expertise. 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

The Engineering Design Technician position requires employees to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
